Topic: TRUE LOVE
1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV)
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
We’re living in a generation in which it is difficult to tell the difference between believers in Christ, and unbelievers. If there’s any trade mark that will convince the world that we’re one in Christ, it is our love for one another.
In fact, our theme Scripture admonishes us to have FERVENT LOVE for one another.
Love is a covering! Yes, true love will cover a multitude of sins. Love does not condone evil. To walk in love doesn’t mean you’ll not expose and rebuke sin.
What true love does is that, it exposes wrongdoing but at the same time covers the wrongdoer. In other words, true love knows the difference between the sinner and his sins. True love hates sin but covers the sinner.
We haven’t started walking in love yet, let alone, to have fervent love for one another. But that’s what God instructs us to do - to have fervent love for one another.
We say something is fervent when it’s very hot or glowing.
I wonder whether that can be said about our love for one another. But when we exhibit true love for one another, we will not spare sin amongst us; we will expose sin, yet cover the sinner.
In other words, we will go the extra mile to ensure the sinner is saved from his sins. That’s true love!
