Topic: A MOCKING LANGUAGE
Isaiah 28:11-12 (KJV)
For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Our theme Scripture is a prophetic revelation the Holy Spirit gave through Prophet Isaiah, regarding “speaking in tongues.” We will consider only verse 11 today.
The Hebrew words translated “stammering lips” in verse 11 also means, “a mocking language.” And the words translated, “another tongue” in verse 11 also means “a strange language.”
What does this mean? It means over 700years before speaking in tongues came into being, Prophet Isaiah had predicted, that there’ll come a generation of people, who will speak a strange language, but this language will bring mockery to the speakers.
Does anyone make mockery of you because you speak in tongues? It’s normal! It was predicted a long time ago, so don’t let that disturb you at all. We will discuss the benefits of speaking this mocking language in verse 12 tomorrow. When the Holy Spirit came to live inside of men on the day of Pentecost, those who heard the 120 disciples speaking foreign languages saw it as strange, and some began to mock them (Acts 2:1-13). Thus, you’re not the first person to be mocked, for speaking in tongues. It is a mocking language, yet it has great spiritual benefits to those who speak it.
