Theme: One Saint, One Soul
Topic: Soul Winning – The Reason for the Anointing
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,”
It is very impressive to observe believers rush in for the anointing. We push one another, grab face towels of anointed preachers, fall under the power and hungrily grasp everything that we believe is a token of the anointing. We carry bottles of oil in and out of church. There is no doubt that believers are hungry for the anointing. The question however, is, for what? What do we need the anointing for?
When Jesus declared that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him, he spelt out clearly the purpose of the anointing. It was to enable him “preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” The question is, if we are this hungry for the anointing, why are we not equally hungry for preaching deliverance and salvation to the people that are held captive by the devil?
It is true that the anointing enables us to do every other thing to the glory of God. Therefore, in our ministries, businesses and careers, we need the anointing. But I strongly believe the primary reason for the anointing is to preach the Gospel, any other application is secondary. Even in these other areas of life, the anointing is to enable us do exploits for the unbelieving to see and give glory to our God (Matthew 5:16).
Pray that the anointing you have received will make you a soul winner.
