Theme : The Great Shepherd

Topic : Partakers of Christ’s Nature

Scripture Reading:
Luke 19:1-10

Main Text:
Luke 19:4
And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

Spiritual elevation is more than just seeing Jesus as He is – we are partakers of Him. After being elevated by grace to see and know Jesus, we become part of Him. The sycomore can be seen as a type of Jesus Christ and the activity of climbing up into it can represent partaking in His nature, power and glory (Hebrews 3:14). Zacchaeus’ spiritual elevation in climbing up into the sycomore tree took him beyond seeing Jesus to being incorporated in Him.

When Zacchaeus climbed up into the sycomore tree, he did not only elevate his position above the ground, but was also “incorporated in the tree”. Looking at him, one would not only see him, but would see him in the midst of the leaves and branches. His smell may have been overshadowed by the smell of the tree. The branches supported his weight. He had become “one with the tree”.

Being parkers of the divine nature empowers you to escape the corruption in the world (2 Peter 1:3-4).  Zacchaeus escaped the corruption of the world around him by climbing up into the sycomore tree. As you draw closer and closer to Jesus Christ, you move further and further away from the corruption of the world around you.

Pray that God will give you a revelation of the divine nature of Christ, of which you are a partaker.
