IPR DAILY DEVOTION
Topic: A GLORIOUS VICTORY AWAITS US
1 Corinthians 15:53-54 (KJV)
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
We learnt from yesterday’s devotion, that, believers who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord will be changed from mortality to immortality in a moment, within the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet sound. We will treat as a separate topic, the events, and the order in which they will occur, when Christ shall come.
Our theme Scripture for today begins by saying, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” (1 Corinthians 15:53, KJV). The physical body is subject to decay and corruption; there’s death in our physical bodies as a result of the fall. That’s why our bodies depreciate with time. In fact, apart from our recreated spirits, everything in this world, including our physical bodies, depreciates with time; the only thing in this world that appreciates with time is the recreated, born again spirit. We cannot go to heaven with our corruptible bodies. The light of heaven is so energetic that our physical bodies will explode should we be exposed to it in our natural state. 1 Timothy 6:16 (KJV) describes our Lord Jesus thus, “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” In His glorified state, Jesus is dwelling in the light which no man can approach; that must be an explosive light for our corruptible bodies. I believe men like Enoch and Elijah who went to heaven in their natural bodies, are reserved in a place where their physical bodies don’t have direct access to this light.
Jesus is the only Person so far having an immortal, incorruptible, or glorified body. He alone has immortality, and if we’re going to be like Him, then, our corruptible bodies MUST put on incorruption; our mortal bodies MUST put on immortality! This is what we’re to eagerly wait for; this is what we must anticipate with pleasure; this is the believer’s hope! Once this happens, the verse 54 of our theme Scripture says, “...then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Do you see God’s intention? God intends to swallow up death in victory! Death was not God’s original creation, and that is why death is not God’s original method for taking us home. In fact, death is described as an enemy in Scripture (1 Corinthians 15: 26). Why will God use an enemy as a tool for taking His children home? It’s because we’re not working towards life, so, by default, death has become an exit door; but the day we shall put on immortality, it shall be said that, death is swallowed up in victory! This means, death does not have dominion over us in our immortal state. What a glorious victory that awaits us!
