Theme: Grow Up
Topic: Growth in the Gifts of the Spirit - Prophecy
1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Ephesians 4:10-16
1 Corinthians 12:8-10
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
The gift of prophecy is the supernatural ability to reveal the mind of God with the intent of revealing sin, bringing correction to believers and exposing the works of the devil. Though this gift may predict the future, believers must use it according to their proportion of faith. We must not exercise gifts for showmanship or through presumption - that will not be maturity.
People in the other five-fold ministry gifts like the apostle, evangelist, pastor and teacher, and believers in general who are not prophets can manifest the gift of prophecy. Believers should trust God to grow in the gift of prophecy. The apostle Peter operated in the five-fold office of the apostle but he manifested the gift of prophecy on several occasions (Acts 8:18-24).
The gift of prophecy brings the fear of God to the Church. It brings repentance and guarantees order. It is the gift that empowers and emboldens the Church for spiritual warfare. It discerns people’s hearts and releases believers to function in areas in which God calls them. Let us covet the gift of prophecy (1 Corinthians 14:1, 39-40).
1. Pray that the gift of prophecy will come alive in you.
2. Pray also for the boldness to walk in the gift of prophecy.
