Romans 8:24-25 (NKJV)

[24] For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? [25] But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

We looked at today’s theme Scripture yesterday under the topic, “We were saved to live for this hope.” From the revelation of Scripture, we can say that our salvation is in three packages.

Man is a spirit, he has a soul, and lives in a body. It is your spirit which is saved at new birth. You got born again when Jesus used His own blood to wash away the sin nature from your spirit (Revelation 1:5). You were then given the righteous nature of God; that is what made you the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). This is the new birth! You became a new creature; a brand new man completely different from the old you (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Your soul, which is made up of your mind, your will, and your emotions, didn’t know anything about this new birth. It is your responsibility after the new birth, to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Your spirit is saved instantly at new birth, but your soul is being saved through the renewing of your mind. No wonder Scripture tells us in Romans 12:2 to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. Until your mind is renewed, you’ll continue to live the old life of sin although you’re a new creature. Renewing of your mind is what enables one to live the transformed life; and that renewal brings about the salvation of your soul.

Your spirit is saved by grace through faith; your soul is being saved through the renewing of your mind with the revelation of Scripture, but your body will be saved as you live in hope of the consummation of our salvation at the coming of Christ. Let not your hope be for only this life; you’ve got to live in hope of the glorious liberty of the children of God, which is the redemption of our body.

What a great salvation we have in Christ Jesus! Hebrews 2:3a says, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation.” Indeed, our salvation is in three packages; one without the other is not complete. Don’t neglect God’s free offer through Christ Jesus; work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
