Topic: THE HOPE OF SEEING JESUS
1 John 3:2 (NKJV)
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
A child of God is one who is born again with the life and nature of God. There might not have been any change in your physical body when you got born again, but you became a brand new person in your spirit. The real you, is your spirit, and that’s the one who gets born again.
The beginning part of our theme Scripture says, “Beloved, NOW we are children of God...” We’re not going to be children of God when we get to heaven; we’re children of God HERE AND NOW! 1 John 4:17 says, as Jesus is, so are we in this world. We’re like Jesus in our spirits, on the inside.
Our theme Scripture continues thus, “...and it has not yet been revealed what WE SHALL BE..” In other words, we don’t have the faintest idea what we’re going to be like in our physical bodies; it is the most unimaginable experience that awaits all children of God.
The last part of our theme Scripture says, “...but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for WE SHALL SEE HIM as He is.” We shall be like Jesus in our physical bodies, on the outside, when He is revealed. We’re already like Him in our spirits, on the inside, but so far, Jesus is the only Child of God with a glorified body. He is the firstborn from the dead (Revelations 1:5, NKJV). When Jesus rose again, He was born again from the dead with an immortal, incorruptible, and glorified body. He is no longer referred to as the “only begotten Son” (John 3:16); He is now referred to as “the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29). We’re the brethren of Jesus because we have the same life and nature that He has. And when we see Him at His coming, we shall be like Him in our physical bodies.
The hope of seeing Jesus, is to be like Him! There’s no physical material that can be used to compare with the glorified body of Jesus. It is an immaterial body. It is flesh and bones, and yet can go through walls. It’s a body that is not subject to decay; it’s an undying body. The glorified body is not subject to any physical law, that is why Jesus could ascend to heaven, in spite of the law of gravitation. This is the believer’s hope; we are to live in this world with such great anticipation. Is that the way you live?
