Topic: The Presence and Power of the Holy Ghost
Luke 3:21-22; Luke 4:1-19
22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
The Spirit of the Lord anointed Jesus Christ to preach the Gospel to the poor. The Greek word for the word “anointed” in Luke 4:18 is chriō, which means to rub or smear someone with oil to consecrate into a sacred office. Although Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh, the Spirit of the Lord anointed Him to preach the Gospel to the poor. You have no business preaching the Gospel without the anointing.
Jesus Christ did not begin His public ministry until the Holy Ghost descended upon Him. After the Holy Ghost came upon Him, He went into the wilderness for a contest with the devil, defeated him and returned in the power of the Holy Ghost to execute His assignment. Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. If you have a divine mandate, you will engage the devil in battle. The devil is not an observer of people who are fulfilling divine purposes. He is an opponent who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. He devises plans to destroy your purpose and possibly eliminate you.
Jesus Christ’s purpose on earth was so enormous that God gave Him the Holy Ghost without measure. The presence of the Holy Ghost upon Jesus Christ was measureless (John 3:34-35). The Son of God was emphatic in His declaration that He cast out devils by the power of the Holy Ghost. The presence and power of the Holy Ghost made Jesus Christ accomplish every purpose the Father had for His life on earth (Matthew 12:27-28).
Pray for yourself that you will always be conscious of the presence of the Holy Ghost with you, and that fear and unbelief will not erode your confidence in the presence and power of the Holy Ghost within you.
